I was generally impressed with the expertise and warm, caring approach of clinical and non-clinical team members. Just a couple of negative reflections: on my first night I was wearing mechanical compression socks. The pumps are so noisy it is impossible to sleep. I asked a nurse if my pump was faulty but she said that all pumps were the same and most patients lost a whole night's sleep just as I did. During the following night, I suffered from gastric issues and had to go to the bathroom three times. I reported this to the night nurse when she visited. I eventually got to sleep at around 3am. The night nurse was aware I had lost almost two nights of sleep and was utterly exhausted but nevertheless, she woke me at around 0615. A day shift nurse asked me how I was and I complained about the night nurse to be told I was roused simply because the night staff were awake and that there was no reason I should not have been allowed to sleep for longer. Disappointing.
